Losers, AMD Fire 1700 Employees



Different from previous rumors grow, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was only cut 15 percent of its staff, or about 1,700 people.

From previous rumors, AMD is known to lay off about 2340 people or 20 percent of total employees.

With these layoffs, AMD expects to save 20 million dollars in the fourth quarter later and 190 million U.S. dollars in 2013.

It was revealed from the results of the third quarter financial statements of fiscal year 2012.

Quoted from Venture Beat, in this quarter, AMD gain a revenue of 1.27 billion U.S. dollars. Unfortunately, this does not succeed revenue to cover all expenses in the quarter AMD. They suffered a loss of 157 million U.S. dollars in the quarter.

AMD blamed the low level of PC software sales in the quarter. Consumers prefer to buy a tablet device or smartphone for computing needs. AMD's main rival, Intel, also experienced the same thing.

"The PC industry is going through a period of significant changes affecting ecosystems and AMD," said Rory Read, president and CEO of AMD.

AMD also plans to expand its business to the tablet device products. In fact, soon, users are able to find the tablet with AMD processor on the market.

According to Ryan Sim, General Manager of AMD Far East ASEAN Region which acted as Country Head AMD Indonesia, the first tablet with an AMD Z-60 will be released towards the end of 2012.

"I can say that there are already a few vendors tablet devices that have been confirmed (will use AMD processors)," Sim said when met in Jakarta, without elaborating any manufacturer intended.
